Title: “Ethics in Multicultural Counseling: an interactive event that takes you inside a culturally-complicated therapy session”

 Speakers: Dr. Heather Holleman and Takisha Jacobs

 Time: 11:30-1pm Eastern

 Location: Mishawaka Library  (hybrid will be available but we encourage in person attendance for this interactive class)

 Description: Attendees are invited to participate in the event by offering alternative, culturally-sensitive responses during planned pauses in the in-vivo session. 

Learning Objectives:

1. Learn how to repair a therapeutic alliance after a cultural misstep 

2. Understand cultural differences in body language and tone of voice, and how that impacts the therapeutic experience 

3. Recognize that competency in multicultural counseling is ever changing, and there is a need to adapt to different individuals within the same system.

Registration Fee: $20  (includes 1.5 hours of Ethics Continuing Education Credit for LCSW, LMHC, LMFT, LCAC, LSW, and Psychologists licensed in Indiana) 

 Community rate: $10 (no ce’s offered)

Speaker Bio’s:

Dr. Heather Holleman received a Masters in Counseling Psychology and a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Notre Dame. She is heavily involved in the community, providing psychological assessments, clinical consultation, and community outreach. 

 Takisha Jacobs co-founded Connect 2 Be The Change Ltd (C2BTC) in 2019 after experiencing the loss of her 15 yr old son Abdul Cross. She gained unparalleled experience in the nonprofit world, while also establishing herself as a respected Community Leader/Advocate for youth and young adults. Currently working as an Outreach Coordinator for Mental Health Awareness of Michiana, Community Health Worker (CHW) for St Joe County & Office Manager for Jackson Hewitt, Takisha is widely known for her passion in breaking the stigma of mental health, gun violence awareness and trauma-informed care practices.
