“Suicide Among Black Youth: Understanding Context, Assessment, and Treatment"

Description: 

Dr. Nicoletti will be discussing how the contextualized adverse childhood experiences of Black youth may contribute to suicidal and other risk behaviors. She will identify assessment tools and evidence based treatments known to prevent and treat risk behaviors in youth, particularly those in Black, urban communities.

Learning objectives:

Attendees will learn how to: 

1. Contextualize the experiences of Black youth at risk for suicide.

2. Identify assessment tools for suicidal behaviors in youth

3. Explore evidence-based treatments for youth at risk with suicidal behaviors

 

Speaker Bio: 

Dr. Taylor Nicoletti is a licensed clinical psychologist and Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Notre Dame, Psychology Department. Her interests are in the area of clinical strengths-based, trauma-informed services to Black children and families in urban, low-income settings. Dr. Nicoletti provides clinical training and supervision to Notre Dame doctoral students in the delivery of empirically supported assessments and interventions for children, adolescents, and families. Dr. Nicoletti is also a part of the Suicide Prevention Initiative—Research, Intervention, & Training (SPIRIT) where she offers clinical services, training, and community engagement efforts addressing suicidality among children and adolescents.

 Dr. Nicoletti has a background in providing consultation liaison clinical services within pediatric health settings and works to promote trauma-informed care within broader health care systems. Her research interests include treatment engagement among Black families, trauma-informed care, and social determinants of health. Dr. Nicoletti is particularly interested in a combination of clinical practice and research, teaching, and training with a focus on the population-based care, prevention, and health promotion of historically marginalized children and families. Above all, being a native of South Bend, Indiana, Dr. Nicoletti is committed to the wellbeing and thriving of Black kids and families within South Bend.
